Many of you who have been following the difficult few weeks that the Raskin family has gone through— there is a new CNN interview with Jamie Raskin where he discusses the loss of his son Tommy on 12/31 and the attack on the Capitol on 1/6, where his daughter and his son-in-law were in the Capitol with him.
He also discusses his role as an impeachment manager and his career as a constitutional law professor. The title of the interview alludes to his resolve to save this democracy — “I’m not losing my son in 2020 and my country in 2021. “
I can see the events of the last few weeks have shaken him to his core. I pray that we get through this week and things calm down long enough so he and his family can heal. No one deserves to go through so much trauma in a matter of days.
Also, Jake Tapper shares a startling statistic about how many young people have considered suicide in this difficult year. So I feel obligated to share this reminder below that there is help available if you or someone you know feels suicidal.
If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). There is also a crisis text line. For crisis support in Spanish, call 1-888-628-9454.
